I'd start in the local high street and walk from one end to the other asking in each shop/pub/restaurant/office if they needed anyone for any work. Leave a mobile telephone number so as they can contact you. Tell them you are prepared to do xxxxx either on a regular basis or a 'one off'. If you are prepare to try your hand to anything you are likely to get offered something. Dress smartly, but not OOT. (Do not forget the offices above the shops, they are full of possibilities.
I'd sort through the house and ebay anything that was just taking space. I'd consider a car boot if I had enough. Consider posted a 'wanted' on Freecycle. I've given loads of stuff to people who posted 'wanted' for car boots, and there are many like me who are happy to give stuff away to individuals who make it clear they are going to resell it.
Gardening? Can you mow? Wash cars? Walk dogs? Repair clothes? Place adds in shop windows or if you've a printer pop through peoples doors - free adverts in local papers?
Think about what you are really good at first and then what you are competent to do and then SELL THOSE SERVICES.
Do yourself a favour and don't take on anything which you know you're rubbish at, bad news spreads faster than good!
GOOD LUCK0
