There's a lot of variables for childcare. Happy to do a calculation though, but I'd need the following:

    Your age.
Confirmation of your partners net income (after tax & NI, wasn't sure if your figure was gross or net)
Details of any outgoings, such as council tax, rent, mortgage payments, building & contents insurance, life insurance. Things like car insurance and utilities aren't included in this.

If you can give me that info, I'll work it out for you.
  • Hi Taiko,

    Was wondering if you'd be able to do a calculation for me as well;
    Age 27
Currently working full time but from 1st Sept parttime and my income will be 8600pa
    Mortgage £500 per month
    contents insurance £20
Council Tax currently £100 but from September alledgedly will be £0 as a student
I have 2 kids 20 months and 7yrs and pay on average 732pm for nursery & 300pm for afterschool club and holiday clubs (this is on average for the entire year)
as it's income assessed i'm not sure if it's worth my while working the 14 hours from Sept or if it would be more beneficial for me to give up work and then be eligible for other help such as income support etc!!

Panicking- dont want to disadvantage the kids by pursuing my own dreams!! Although ultimnately it'll be for their benefit!!

    HELP!

hi taiko - thanks so much - details as below:

I'm 37. i currently get carers allowance but this will stop when i start uni ft but it will total £1100 for this financial year. Husband's net income is £13500 after tax/ni. We do get tax credits totalling £9000 per annum and child benefit for three kids - haven't got the exact figure with me but i think it's £170 every 4wks?
Our mortgage is currently £425 monthly, council tax £103 monthly and household insurance £25 monthly. husband has a dmp but don't think that counts as acceptable outgoings does it?!
    Childcare costs will be £190pw.

    thankyou

    No, the dmp doesn't count.

Can you confirm how much of that is child tax credit and how much is WTC please? Also, are you getting childcare from tax credits?

I'll do all the workings either tonight or tomorrow, depending on my workload.

    Taiko,
sorry haven't come back re wtc/ctc - slight issues with pc!! it's actually £7411 for this year - all ctc at present - although i'm waiting for a revised award as it's currently based on my receiving carers allowance for the whole year which will stop when i start uni so i've given them a new income estimate which I think may mean we will receive a higher payment including a very small wtc element. Will this impact on any childcare grant i might get??
    thanks in advance.

I'm in the office tomorrow, so I'll do all the calcs then. Apologies, been an extremely busy week, and it's looking like over at the centralised office crap may hit the fan within the next few weeks.
