WOW Lilaclillie - those are so beautiful. I can't sew for toffee but you have inspired me. Now to see if I can get a sewing machine of freecycle....

Why thank you so much Ladyhawk. I have also never sewn anything before, or used a machine, even though I've had one for 3yrs.
I really shocked myself, thing is they are not hard to do (the simple one's I made) but look so fantastic when finished.
The first one, the pink, was from recycled bits of fabric, with a back layer of Laura Ashley fabric that just happened to fit perfectly.
I machined all of it, including the quilting.
I made it for a friends 1st baby and the friend AND baby love it.
The 2nd I made for my DGS2 and he also (for some unknown reason) has really 'taken' to it.
I machined the front and stitched the backed quilting by hand.
A very difficult task for me.................Labour of love..................because I have carpal tunnel in both hands>
I am going to make my DGS1 one after summer, the same as the first 2, with the material I recently bought in US, then move on to something more exciting because I'm getting the 'feel' for it now and feeling more confident.

Hi all, I have always wanted to try quilting... I now have two little ones and wanted to make them each a memory quilt from some of their baby stuff. Can anyone tell me if I would be able to use the jersey type material they use for baby grows and the like? sorry to ask such stupid questions but I cant find any sewing circles OR courses in my area :o not entirely sure where to go for advice!

I attended my first session of my local quilting group and asked much the same question. It seems for absolute top quality work, quilters recommend 100% cotton. I guess the jersey might stretch which could pull things out of shape. Maybe it could be backed onto cotton? There is another older thread on quilting. Someone on there with more experience would probably be able to help.

    TGR :)
