i was wondering this too, our coffee shop at work gives it away0

Coffee grounds are an excellent fertiliser for roses, tomatoes and any acid loving shrubs.
After using a cafetiere of coffee, I fill it up with cold water and pour it everywhere! Tomato plants, hanging baskets, pots - you name it. I find that it improves the way pots and containers hold onto water during dry spells.
If you can save it in larger quantities then it's very good when mixed with soil. Bedding plants and annuals just love it.
Sometimes I go into a coffee shop and ask for a bag of used grounds. Starbucks and other places seem only happy to oblige and I come away with black bin-liner full. It's so heavy that they give me a box to carry it away in. I put it straight onto my compost heap and mix it into the green waste. It heats up very fast and really starts working on breaking down the contents and making it nice and crumbly.
It's said that you can use a thick layer of grounds around the base of fruit trees and shrubs, but I haven't tried it yet.
No wonder they call it Black Gold.0 -
Our staff restaurant gives it away too but I was never too sure whether I needed to add water or just mix it into the soil?0

Have put it on my tomatoes so will see how they go with the coffee.0 -
We drink a lot of coffee, so our coffee grounds go on the compost, in the wormery or I spread them around my lettuces as slugs & snails don't like them.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
