They shouldn't do, but some have reported on here that they have searched their files. You can only apply for the cash card account in a branch, so make it clear to them that is the account you want and make sure that is the account they try for you. They may try to convince you to go for the full account (they have targets to reach) with the basic account as a fallback if you're not successful.
Read the Basic Bank Accout thread stickied at the top of this section of the forum for lots of info about basic accounts.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
I got a Halifax Easycash card account last year, they did not search my credit file. You might want to consider this as an alternative.

I got a basic bank account with Barclays last week and they didn't do a credit check. My OH is bankrupt and the woman in the bank said as long as he has photographic id (passport/driving licence) he could open a basic account with them no bother!:money:0

My main account is a barclays current account plus which i have had for about two years. I want another account with them just for budgeting purpuses. In general i think they are a brill bank to be with. Do you if the account will be open there and then?It takes two to tango!:rotfl:0 -
You should walk out of the branch with your new sort code and account number. If you have a plus account, getting a basic one will be even easier (as they have your info already).Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0

When I opened my Cash account a few years ago they sent my application away in the post to be opened and they just verified my Passport, and Driving License. The only reason you'd be declined is for a record of fraud for a cash account.
Being that you already bank with them, why don't you open a straight Barclay's Bank account with no added extras?0 -

Yeah they asked if I wanted to put any money in my account and gave me a print off with my sort code and account number.0 -
As their cash card account is available to bankrupts, I doubt if you have to worry about a credit check0

Im still not sure what to do? I do have a second account with Rbs but of late there customer service within the branch has been poor. It would be easier to have everything with one bank and there service has been good i also have two savings accounts with them too.It takes two to tango!:rotfl:0

Will they do a credit check/search if you have the visa debit card on this account? They give you two options one a cash card that you can only withdraw money out or a visa debit card. I would definetly want the visa debit card. Any feedback will great! Many thanks in advance!!!It takes two to tango!:rotfl:0
