Cant open car bonnet

Hi, I have tried to open my car bonnet however it does not want to open!! I've pulled the opening lever inside my car as hard as I can however it does not open. I have a Seat Ibiza from 1997. Any advice/help would be gratefully received. Thanks

Possible the bonnet release cable may have snapped, become stretched or come out of it's mounting. I'm fairly certain you should be able to get an arm up to where the catch is under the bonnet and release it with a screwdriver.

Thanks for the info barnabee .. I'm a member of the AA .. do you think they would come out and help me with that? It is pretty important to be able to have access to the engine, but not sure if I'm covered (just have the basic option)

You'll more than likely not be covered by the AA as you have not broken down and your car is driveable (easily to a garage). take it somewhere local and ask for help. They should be able to do this for you in a few min's and only charge you a nominal sum.

The mechanisms can seize up. Get somone else to push down on the bonnet whilst you pull the cable.

get someone to try to open the bonnet outside the car while you pull the lever.

Thanks everyone for your replies ... When I push down on the bonnet it doesnt "move" at all - it seems to be pushed down further than "normal". I'll go by a garage.
