I need to know if a old boiler has any scrap value and scrap yards or otherwise, will give you anything.?
Got one cluttering the place up at the moment.
The local washing machine repair guy said he would take it for some reason. Thanks for any help.

Hope you've got a waste carrier licence or that £5 of lpg could turn into a £300 fine. Their getting very keen.

Really,I will ask first I guess. Its come out of the domestic flat above so not sure the rule applys ?.
But I don,t know for sure.
I can imagine being reported for £300 if its possible someone can get it off you, they would probably try anyway, just to chance it.

Yes the rules apply. They don't it you take it in a private car but all trade vehicles are supposed to have a licence. A lot of people chance it. I've applied for a licence though as it's not worth the risk. The licence it £150-ish for 3 yrs. I heard of a plasterer fined for having a bit of old plaster in his bucket...

Stupid law if you ask me.

Just take it into your local scrap metal merchant - you don't need a license for that. Around here it's about £100 per ton for steel, cast iron etc. If you mean a copper cylinder however that will be worth a lot more - about £3 per kg

You certainly don't need a waste license to carry your own property. I thought a copper boiler was worth around £30.

Someone I know has made an absolute fortune getting the boilers, radiators and piping from council employees who are refurbishing houses. He buys them their lunches, they give him the scrap - it is a full time business and has been going on a few years. Has he a licence? - no, he just acts daft when stopped. Can't quite understand why the council hasn't questioned what happens to the scrap.

Rubbish - excuse the pun - It your a business and you move anything that is considered waste, and that includes scrap metal your taking to a merchants, you need a licence.

My brother is a builder and recently stripped out a copper cylinder and various other pipework on a bathroom fit. He took it to the scrap yard and received nearly £180 all in. Well worth it!
