Wedding abroad - what is the groom wearing?

Hi all

Just wondered what all the grooms are wearing for your weddings abroad?

Think hubby to be wants something quite formal, but I was thinking more light linen trousers (or suit) and white shirt? Is that boring? ;)

I have the same problem with my fiance, we have no clue what to dress him in.

I have been told by my wedding planner to steer clear of linen as it creases so easily-if we insist on llinen look it should be linen mix not real linen if that makes sense. Have also been told that light colours will show up sweat marks and he may look like he wet himself!!

Add to this though, we are getting married in Spain next July-right now it is 29 degrees, going up to 33 during the week, so I suppose it really does depend on where you are going and how hot it is likely to be.

I didn't even think about creasing or sweat! We are getting married in Sri Lanka in March - expect temperatures to be early 30's:eek:

Now I'm confused!! I know what I want to wear - a Maggie Sottero destinations dress. Both my Mum and his Mum want long floaty maxi dresses, it's just the men that are difficult!!

How formal do you want the men to be? If you're being fairly casual then something like cargo shorts with a white, short sleeved shirt and nice flip-flops might be nice?

But that would probably only work if you're getting married outside, on the beach or something?

I know what I want to wear too, its a Mori Lee Voyage dress and it is delicious-I really need to get my !!! in gear and shift a couple of stone though :(

We are having a catholic ceremony so struggling big time-the only saving grace is out wedding should be around 4pm so at least it will be cooling down a bit.

I think we will end up buying suits from m&s for the boys and accepting that the jackets will get ditched immediately after the ceremony!

4nnabella - Think I want them a bit more formal than shorts, but not morning suits! Thanks for the idea (I think OH would love to wear shorts :p.)

Kazz81 - I think you're probably right, light coloured suits are the way to go. Haven't agreed wedding date/time yet, but that's a good idea to go for later afternoon, so it's a bit cooler.

Are you going to get your dress from the shop, or are you looking on internet (to be more MSE??!!). I posted another thread earlier with details of my dream dress, I'm just really scared about ordering it online from China!!
  • My OH is wearing trousers, shirt and waistcoat, nothing too much, didnt want a suit as we will be in Florida it will be too hot. We thought linen trousers too but with the creasing its not worth it as he is hard to keep looking tidy at the best of times lol, He wants to wear a tie too so Im more than happy with that. He wants to wear shorts and a t shirt so to me the fact he volunteered this was a miracle!! I didnt want anything too formal either but this will be ok Im sure. Ive seen pics of other weddings at the location we have and they wore similar and it looked great so im more than happy. Now if I could just get him in the shop to chose something we would be all set lol

The one I want is not actually n the shop yet, so am waiting to see what the price tag is. I have seen it on a UK website for £550 and contacted houseofbrides.com to see if they will be stocking it and am waiting for someone to get back to me-it seems I could get it from there for about £250 if they will stock it (I am basing that on similarly priced dresses!!). Absolutely petrified of ordering the dress online, my sis and my daughter are my bridesmaids and my sis is kind of pushing for the full bridal shop experience, but its just so so pricy!

I have seen pictures of a wedding where the boys wore cargo shorts and casual shirts and flip flops, they looked fantastic, however the wedding was in South Africa so it was hugely hot, and it wasnt the type of wedding I would like-it definately went with the theme of their wedding though!

Doesn't mean you can't have the bridal shop experience! It could be a good idea to go to a few shops, try some dresses on, see what sort of thing suits you. You don't have to buy from them if you don't want to, and if you know how a dress looks on you, then it might give you a bit more confidence in buying one online, once you've already tried it on?

Yeah I think thats what I will be doing in the end, my sis will just have to accept that we wont be going for endless fittings at the shop lol I will definately be deciding what I want from the shops.

Wow Kazz81, there are some gorgeous dresses on the house of brides website - I've never even heard of that one. The only ones I seem to read about are Milly and Landy - has there been good feedback from them?

Don't seem to do Maggie dresses, but some beautiful dresses on there.
