In Hastings (East Sussex) theres a Hotel full of Asylum seekers and also the Kings Rd,Worrior Square area of St Leonards is full too..0 -

He must have acquired refugee status or similar (possibly indefinite leave to remain). Then, the normal rules re: LHA would apply....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Many people see the LHA rules as unfair. Having paid into society (e.g. NI contributions) counts for nothing whilst having lots of children will get you a nicer property (and lots of screaming kids).
I don't think the asylum seeker rules are sustainable, nor do I find a situation where indivduals can destroy their passports to avoid being deported acceptable (if you don't know where they're from - can't deport them).0 -

I agree, but theres no reason why they can't be deported back to say Calais (If smuggled via lorry) or back to the airport they flew in from......
Its a simple solution ,its the right solution and sod the Human rights act and European Courts too.....
I know the umpteen Chinese Asylum seekers that were found running around my yard came from Calais, its not difficult to send them back there.....Even if they were Gay/Lesbian, Capitalist freedom fighters....0 -

You would need agreements in place with every country that has transport links here. Plus, in the case of airports e.t.c. arrivals mix before passport control.
Don't want everyone living in airports like Tom Hanks in the terminal.0 -

Not rocket science though Malcolm,so why are these agreements taking years to agree? I guess the truth is those countries don't want them either.
So we being the land of milk n honey get lumbered ...........Again....0 -

Could insist on being given thorough details of everyone entering the country (for vetting) in advance of their arrival (as happens in US). And all non-eu nationals could have biometric data taken, at their expense.
That could help, and probably isn't too draconian.0 -

Here's what NASS itself says:
"If you are homeless or without money to buy food (we call this 'destitute') you may qualify for housing provided by us. If you do, we will give you somewhere to live in a place where suitable housing is available. You will not be able to choose where this is. We will provide transport to take you there.
We provide housing in the following regions of the United Kingdom:- north west;
- midlands;
- north east;
- Wales; and
- Scotland.
We provide different housing at different stages of your application process. If you qualify for housing when you first make your asylum application, we will place you in what we call initial accommodation, which gives you somewhere to live for the first two or three weeks.
After this you will usually move to different housing. It will normally be in the same region of the country as your initial accommodation, and in the region where your case owner works."...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
That may be what NASS say NDC but I can assure you Hastings and St Leonards has literally hundreds.....Honestly:D..
Worrior Square and around Kings Road is almost a no-go area after dark.....although this is more down to the perception of crime rather than actually being a crime hotspot.This is down to the fact that the AS,s are always milling around in groups which can be intimidating....Thats not to say there isn't muggings,verbal abuse, drink problems etc(similar to most larger sized towns) ..
I would just like to add that its not just towns/cities up North that have big social problems, high unemployment there are towns down South that are genuinely suffering and have done for decades, Hastings is a prime example.This together with the fact that something like 42% of people employed in the Hastings area work for the Public sector so it will more than likely get worse .
Recently been tracing the family history , One side of my family has been around Hastings since at least 1650.....cool eh? or sad?0
