Now i gather the first pic is the Master Socket. If i fit the plate onto this, do i then still have to install microfilters into the two other sockets..?

if you fit a filtered faceplate you won't get bb in the other sockets at all. You'll have to connect your router to the master. If you want to place router elsewhwere, might be better to follow the wiring tutorials here:-

    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php and

    http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

and use a filter in each one. Removing the bell wire will probably be the most beneficial to you....

Yes, your supposed to connect a filter to every device that connects to the phone line (even though i only use one at the main-you however atleast need one for each port assuming your going to use them all) If you have a sky digibox i'd certainly put one on that. if you were using one of them multitap sockets extentions then you can get away with just the one splitter, but i'm assuming your going to use all of your faceplates.

prehaps I misunderstood, sorry my advice was based on the using the little splitters you get of your isp
incase it is what your after google "guide to fitting microfilters" click the first result and you should get a nice little diagram down the page which appears to be exactly your situation

Hi Orville, how are the flying lessons going?

A filtered master socket faceplate like this one can be wired so that your other extensions are filtered, or not filtered depending on your requirements.

Have a read of the installation instructions.

Well have to admit i really don't understand those instructions.

What my end goal is, is to have my router attached to the master socket and maybe also my main phone unit. Trouble with the phone situation is that the master socket is actually in my bedroom. What i might do is plug the main phone unit into the sky one, but i need another connection there so i can plug the modem lead from the sky box too.

So do i just take the main face off the master. Make a note of what wires go where and then replace them on the filter faceplate like for like. Then on the sky one plug a filter in so i can then plug the phone into one of the filter slots and then then modem lead from the sky into the other filter slot..?

The Filtered faceplate will give you an ADSL socket and a telephone socket.
You then wire you extensions to the back of the faceplate using the same pins as used presently, i.e. 2 and 5.
You extensions will then be filtered, no others being required.

In a new build watch out for the phone extensions being wired in burglar alarm cable [stranded cores, solid insulation colour on each core rather than White + Colour and Colour + White, fixed with screw terminals rather than punch down Insulation Displacement terminals]. This sort of cable will degrade ADSL quite significantly. if you have this sort of cable, you should filter the broadband at the faceplate and prevent the signal going to any of the rest of the property.

and plug that straight into my sky socket and i should be good to go..?

Yes all you need is a socket doubler on your 'Sky' faceplate.
BTW The ADSL Nation Faceplates work well use one myself, others are available.
