I also love Specsavers - have had numerous problems with my contacts and they even diagnosed an eye condition that I wasn't yet aware of. Now, thankfully all sorted.
Would definitely recommend them. Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
I am not happy with specsavers as they sent my contact lenses by post with the soloutions but they once missed me completely and twice sent me just lenses and when i rung told me i had to go into town to sort it(which was the whole point of getting it posted as getting into town is a nightmare and expensive and not why i pay them £20 each month).I cancelled because of this and now they are threatening me over £30 which i dont owe them as they never sent me what they should have as i need soloutions too.
So i personally am not impressed with them and would not deal with them again.0 -
I, and my family use them all the time. Never had any problems with them. I've now got varifocals, with reactalites, and they are fine. I'd recommend them.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I use specsavers.
However remember they are a franchise, therefore each store will vary from the other, and will especially be determined by the opticians who actually see you.
However saying that I've used Specsavers in Cardiff, Guildford, Croydon and St Helier and all have been fine."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Interesting to read this. As a money saving optician I am always interested (and a little saddened) to see general views. The facts are that Specsavers are indeed a franchise but in any case, the optician who performed the test carries responsibility for that part. Opticians must conform to the Opticians Act and they are governed by the General Optical Council https://www.optical.org.
If anybody has a problem with eyewear that they can't solve by speaking to the practice then they can contact the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS) who are independent - https://www.opticalcomplaints.co.uk Complain to The Administrator OCCS, P.O. I too have had great service from specsavers, as has my dh, however, aren't Boots doing free eye tests just now?
You can take the prescription away with you and into specsavers to buy their cheap specs.
I know some specsavers used to offer free eye tests, but the on ein Dundee rarely does.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I had an eye test at Specsavers today and cant believe the arrogance of the man.
Told me I needed three pairs of glasses. One for computer work and one each for close and distance use.
Trouble is he didnt ask how far away I sit from the computer or how far I hold the newspaper away from me when I read it. He adjusted the near vision during the test then when I told him I couldnt read anything off the page he told me to hold it closer. LOL I always hold away from me and I am mever that close to the computer screen. Didnt realise till I was paying for the test and the sales assistant noticed he had made a mistake in writing out the prescription, optician had deleted most of what he had typed in and retyped it as he got it wrong the first time".
When I voiced my concern to the manager owner she just shrugged.
So do I pay for three pairs of specs or do I demand another test.
I think I will have another eye test.0 -
I'm due to have an eye test and specsavers have set up a new shop in my town. Has anyone had any experience with these? I do have an eye condition so I want to be sure they are good
if you have a pre-existing eye condition ideally it would recomended that you choose an optician that you are happy with and stay with them so as they have comprehensive notes on the condition and how it may have changed from one test to the next. that way you can be reffered if necessary as the optician will know if there has been a change in the condition and time will not be wasted reffering you when in fact the condition has remained stable but a different optician has no history ro reffer to.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. i actually work for specsavers! you can be rest assured that all opticians employed by specsavers are fully qualified. the thing that people forget is when they have a incorrect prescription, they would have told the optician when they were in the examination that they could see with that prescription in front of their eyes! its all about the answers given on the day, and you can give one answer one day and another answer the next which can mean minimal differences in prescriptions given by different opticians.
in answer to hiccup, when you reach an age that you need reading glasses, this is because you need to hold the page too far away to read properly, therefore the prescription given will be so that you can read closer. they will last you longer this way than if you have them made up weaker, they should last you probably two years with what he has given you but if they are made weaker so you can hold a page further away then you will probably find them to be too weak after a year/18 months. if after trying the glasses for a week you feel that you do not get on with them then go back in and ask for them to be adjusted slightly - please be nice to the dispensers, they are only there to help

Cant agree. It is not up to the optician to decide what is comfortable for me. Only I know that. Also he only gave one option for close work when we all know Computer users sit further away from the screen than a newspaper and I was having a third pair to watch the computer but with the same close up prescription. Just not on.:j0
