Rover 25 Insurance Question

Hi,
My car was hit August 12th by another driver.
It is a rover 25, 2003 year, 26 thousand miles.
It suffered damage to the wheel and steering.
I have been told my a mechanic friend that the parts required to repair my vehicle are no longer available new as Rover no longer exist and the suppliers X-Part do not have any in stock.
My mechanic friend said they are writing off rovers with less damage than my rover 25 and is surprised they are repairing mine with little or no parts available new.
The insurance company said they are repairing the vehicle – however are they obliged to put new parts onto my car?
I am worried that the car will be returned to me with second hand parts.
If its true that X-Part who are the official stockists of rover-mg vehicles, don’t supply the part anymore – how can the insurance company repair it?
Do I have the right to reject the car?
Can I get it independently inspected?
I really don’t want the car back anyway – but even more so if its cheaply repaired.

Any advise appreciated.

  • Many car manufacturers only make a very small number of parts. So under licence, after market parts will also be available for your car. Do not be worried about these parts, more often than not the manufacturer will be the same or at least will manufacture according to the same standard (or tolerance) as the original. If you still feel nervous, you can have an independent inspector examine your car after the repair but before you sign to say your happy.
I believe the RAC and AA both offer these services as do other companies.
    Hope this helps

I wouldn't worry. It doesn't make any difference really. A part's a part. It could either be 3 years old and original to your car, or 3 years old and transfered from another car. As long as it meets the spec it doesn't make any difference.

If we are talking scrap yard stuff here....
Not the case. If you fit a part that has a limitted lifespan anyway then you are reducing that lifespan second time around. I would not reccomend fitting second hand parts to vehicles (Steering, suspention etc).

It may well be worth speaking to your local Xpart AutoService centre to find out if the parts are available. https://www.xpartautoservicecentre.com

Ball joints, rod ends, brake pads etc are all consumables and I agree 2nd hand is waste of time. However, there are many other parts.
