Both my sons had reflux and I breastfed so didn't have the option of giving anything to put in their feeds until they were older. They both put on weight OK and tbh it was me that suffered more than them in the end - with my second one they were a lot quicker to offer me help in the form of gaviscon to put in his feeds once he wasn't entirely breastfed, and that was really because they recogniesd how it was wearing me down trying to cope with a toddler and a refluxing baby!
I also used chairs rather than lying flat and slightly raised the head of their cots. I also bought tons of bibs and always had towels around under them so when they brought everything up I could just whip away the towel/bib and replace with another. I also had loads of cheap t shirts for the same reason.
I know that these days there are more medications available but tbh I don't know how much I'd want to rely on drugs (and I work in the pharmaceutical business). They do grow out of it though ages vary. I kept being told it would be better when they were sitting/crawling - mine both crawled by 6 months but didn't grow out of the reflux tiL about a year old. That was the nightmare phase, when they crawled around with a trail of yuck behind them! It had eased a bit by then but I still was wary for about an hour after each feed.
Although it was hard work I tried to just fit round it to a certain extent but maybe there's more to help these days (mine were babies back in the early-mid 90s). Good luck x
