Things to do in Sussex?

Hi, me and my partner are spending a week in Baclombe (crawley) in 2 weeks time, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any relatively cheap days out in sussex, or stuff we could do?

I wouldn't let the good people of Balcombe hear you call it Crawley! They'd go nuts at the thought!

There is quite a number of shops in Crawley you could visit - there are also the usual; cinemas (UGC) & ten pin bowling at the multiplex place. If aircraft are your thing you can visit Gatwick Airport! Better though, if you have a car, take a ride out towards Shoreham airport (about 50 mins), the old buildings and settings around the river make this a great (and cheap) morning/afternoon out!

You could take a trip down to Brighton (about 40 mins in sunny weather) have a look at the seaside, marina and pier. Some good walks along the coastal towns. I'd suggest you travel by train though as the traffic can be very bad at times and parking is near criminal in cost. The Balcombe station is on the main line but be sure you know the last train time back!

If History is your thing take a trip into Lewes (again about 40 mins by car), with it's great history and many small antique shops.

Sussex also boasts an array of gardens. Just South of Balcombe is Wakehurst Place. It's not cheap but is meant to be very nice to visit. At the weekends it can get busy later on, so best visit earlier to avoid the rush.
