I doupt theres way where it works out cheaper, its not that simple either, if they dont have the frame shape on file im not sure if they can cnc the lenses or they might not have the parts if you have some special frames (half rim, rimmless etc)

I have asked boots before if i could re-use the frames (originally brought from them) they said they could but would not accept any liability on the frames, this was some time ago however.
  • Hi,

Has anybody ever asked their optician to reuse their old frames to fit newly required lenses? If so, did this work out cheaper or more expensive than obtaining a brand new pair? Thanks.

Have you checked the links in the post prior to yours?

Probably the wrong bit of the forum.

I have had it done in the past at a local independent, but was without the frames for a period.

When my son was looking fo rsome new frames recently I noticed a couple of the highstreet shops charging £50 - 60 to reglaze. At the end of the day that is where the time and skill is required and they don't have the profit from the frame to cross subsidise.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, overlooked the links. It may be worthwhile then to store my old frames.

My optician quoted me £120 for new lenses to go in my old frames which, considering my eyesight isn't too bad and I didn't want anything fancy, was crazy.

Instead I bought a brand spanking new pair online from Metsuki - £135 all in, including a pair of Prada frames that on the high street I'd been quoted £330 for.

I'm now thinking of getting my old pair reglazed as spares from Metsuki - they quoted me around £40. Bargain!

Best thing about them was their customer service - I messed up when I inputted my prescription and they phoned to double check it with me. Really lovely and helpful on the phone, and they kept me up to date with where my glasses were up to via email)
