Cheque in my maiden name

I have been married for three years but received a cheque today address to my maiden name. Will my bank accept this or will I have to ask for the cheque to be re-written?

Banks are inconsistent on this - so there's no guaranteed answer. You can only ask at your Branch - but take your marriage certificate with you as 'proof'.

Or you could try paying it in via an ATM and hope they don't check it back to the account name.

This is one occasion where I really think you are definately going to have to speak to your bank, not worth taking chances, all the hassle and possible charges that will/could arise.

It will depend on the amount.
Small value cheques will be accepted on a one off basis.
Large cheques may not and you may be asked to send the cheque back for them to amend the surname.

You may think this a hassle but in reality this should have been done when you married.(Inform of a change of name that is)

Because my account had my maiden name on it before I got married by bank accepted one after about a year of the change.
