Ebay, payment not arrived?!!

I wonder if anyone can help. Doubtful but, we'll give it a go.

I won an item on ebay for the sum of £23.00 inc. postage on the 31st August. I sent the seller a postal order first class on the 1st Sept (friday) as his paypal wouldn't let me pay him. I presumed it would be there saturday morning or monday. It still wasn't there yesterday, and he hasn't contacted me today, so presume it's the same storey.

All I have is a reciept for the postal order, as I was rushing about all day, so just threw the letter at the person in the post office and said "first class" and threw her the money and off I went. I knew I should have got a proof of postage, but was in such a hurry. I was there long enough to see her put it in the bag behind her though, so I know it went. :wall:

Suppose there's no way off tracing it? I know £23 isn't a whole lot of money, but it's money, and that's what this whole site is about! :D

  • Well I know 5 days is a long time for 1st class but royal mail won't do anything until 14 working days has passed. I hope you got a postal receipt as you are covered upto £30 just in case it goes missing.

A postal reciept? As in proof of postage? No, I didn't. I only have 1 reciept, and that is for the postal order of £23. Well, I presume I will just have to wait and see if it turns up by Friday, if not will have to send another I presume.
  • i shouldn't panic just yet, RM seem to have delays at the moment - likely to be caused by the new system. i sent a postcard 1st class (in uk to uk) and it took a week to arrive, and a parcel 5 days.

I'm rather concerned that the seller offered paypal, then suddenly couldn't use it and wanted a PO instead...this is a classic scam although it doesn't seem like one for such a small amount.

Did you send the PO crossed and with a payee added as th enew ones then need to be cleared so the seller may be waiting for clearance until he contacts you. If it was sent uncrossed with no payee then it should be cashable, but it also means it cannot be stopped as there is no proof of who cashed it if it has been stolen.

  • If you can do it the safest way to pay would be a bank account or your paypal balance, these payments are instant, the seller is well happy and it reflects good on you for prompt payment.

He didn't stop me from using paypal, he wanted me to. But when I clicked to pay him through paypal, a message just kept saying "this person cannot accept payments at this time". I told him and he thought it was strange, so I said I would just send a PO. It was in his name, but not crossed, as I thought it would be more convenient and quicker for him to cash.
