Losing network connection

Hi - going to type this very fast before it goes again! Over the past couple of days my connection to the internet keeps dropping and then restarting :( Today things have got progressively worse and it's going every couple of minutes. I've done a system restore to a time before I started having the problem but it hasn't made any difference. I can see I've just lost it again now! Whereas before when this has happened I've always been able to see my router in the available wireless networks it keeps disappearing now. I'm working wirelessly on the laptop and OH is on the desktop upstairs with no issues. At the moment when I ask it to check for networks it's saying it can't find any at all although mine and the neighbours either side are all switched on and usually visible! TIA

Try changing the channel of your router for a starter, let us know if it works/or your unsure how to do this
PS, while your typing keep copying so you can paste again if need be (saves a lot of frustration retyping!)
Also, do you have any thing that might be interfering with your wireless. AV senders?, another laptop sharing your IP address(you'd be told of a conflict by windows)? any recent driver updates available? or new ones that have created the problem. It would be nice if you had another wireless device so we could rule out the router (you mentioned your OH is that PC wireless too or wired in?.

One more thing. Are you using windows or the wireless adapter's own software to manage the wireless device. Personally I find windows more stable, but simply switching from one to the other can help. At least that's what I've found sometimes

funnily enough I've just re-booted my router and had a warning flash up that there's a conflict with IP address on another computer but not sure how to work that out and when I clicked on the extra help button it just said everything was working fine.......which it is at the minute.
I had to re-format my computer last week and there are a number of icons that have appeared at the bottom of the screen and I'm not sure what they are so I could have conflicts there too. I also upgraded my drivers so I could connect properly with my BlackBerry but if they were a problem it should have been cleared by the System restore wouldn't it? Sorry I can follow instructions well but I'm not particularly techie minded so can advise be idiot proof please :o
Oh and my Blackberry connects via UMA when I'm in the house and that's connected now.......but then again so is the laptop at the moment!

Ok, I wonder if you have got a static IP address set up? do you know how to change this? if you don't let me know what OS your using and what variant it is ie. Vista 32bit home or xp pro etc.

    Hi
it's Vista home premium 32bit. It's still running at the moment since I restarted the router so maybe that's done the trick?? :)

Yes maybe, but you've possibly bumped your other pc or your blackberry off instead. Basically, if you not familliar with IP addresses, you usually get 192.168.0.1 as the router (or default gateway ie. your front door to your house) then 192.168.0.2, 0.3 0.4 etc get automatically assigned on a first come first served basis by your router, unless you/someone else set up a static ip address. Normally this is fine if you go round setting them all differently, and indeed benefitial if you use software like uTorrent etc, but if you set two or more to the same IP address, you get the conflict and only one will work at a time. this can go unnoticed if only one device is used at a time, but turn them both on and you start having issues. The fact its working now is probably because something else has been bumped off or turned off, so you might want to check all your devices now and catch the issue before it returns.
As a side note, this still wouldn't explain why you couldn't see any wireless device, so maybe it was just a glitch

Ok. Seeing as you restarted the router it could have been the router that was being stupid giving out the same address to everything. Good Luck
