Goodbye Sky!

I did it! I have given Sky the heave Ho! I was paying an outrageous £46 a month for sky with sky plus. They tried to offer me sweeteners to stay but I held firm. The guy was quite naughty really, trying to be my mate and saying 'oh but you'll miss sky plus, I couldn't live without it' .
I see NTL are offering TV, phone and internet for £30 a month, if this is true I will save over £50 a month. Does anyone have this? Apparently I can keep my skyplus box and use it for freeview which might be another option

Get freeview - boxes are on sale for under £30.00 at Tesco - No annual fee - No ongoing monthly charges.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hiya, we've just changed to the all in NTL package for £30, it was installed last week, we've kept one box as a freeview box (we had multiroom) & I think the other box will go on Ebay.
The NTL telly is great, you get free stuff too, like being able to watch old episodes of BBC programmes, comedies etc on their 'on demand' service.
We actually went for the next package up + sports we get all of that, plus 2MB broadband & phone with free weekend calls for £44 a month, saves us about £50 per month on what we were paying for everything seperate.0 -
Just record the soaps now and mothball them for 10 years. In 10 years time you won't need Sky. freeview nor NTL.
I'm watching the football tonight at the sports club. Large screen and 20p a pint.

lol Did you tell him that there's more to life than TV? :rotfl:
Well done. Sky's a BIG waste of money.
If you miss new release films etc, why not try your hand at being a free DVD Rental tart? It can be really fun (and free!). There a whole thread dedicated to it if you do a search."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I have it... It is fab.....
You could try extend your skybox to your bedroom and have freeview there and have the new cable in your main room.
I have the Cable version of SKY+ and extra speed Broadband and still its only £50 all in... I know its a bit naughty... but far far far cheaper than any other package that includes all 3 for ya.0 -

The OP doesn't need to!
Just keep your Sky box plugged in and you can watch freeview through that for nothing (except More4 and E4 I think?)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I thought E4 and E4+1 had gone freeview now?
Also - do you not need a freeview card from Sky anymore? As we are currently looking at reducing our sub or ditching sky completely.[strike]£1,000 Bank Overdraft[/strike] - Repaid!
[strike]£3,600 Car Loan[/strike] - Repaid!
[strike]£1,550 Engagement Ring (0%)[/strike] - Repaid!

Yes they are but you don't get them if you just have your Sky cancelled.
I cancelled my Sky over a year ago and still get the following through my Sky box (with just my original viewing card in it)
BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, BBC News, CBBC, CBeebies, BBC Parliament
ITV 1,2,3,4 Childrens ITV
Channel 5
Sky Three, Sky News
abc1,Travel Channel, Men & motors, Movies 4Men (Whatever that is?!), Actionmax and loads of other channels that I never watch!
POP & Tiny POP (kiddies channels)
Chart show TV,The Vault,B4, Classic FM, Fizz Music
All for nothing.
Film 4 also seems to work (but not E4 or More 4, I've just tried them)"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Anyone looking to get freeview, be sure to check that there is coverage in your area first - http://www.freeview.co.uk/0

Or
Just stop watching the idiot box alltogether!
Think of all the hours you will have free to do something with your life
I did this 2 months ago and have setup a side buisiness! Also spare time for learning and other projects (well tbh the business is taking up 100% of my spare time now lol)0
