problems using another website

not sure if i'm in order asking this question here .. but with a struggle i have emailed them but had no answer ......

As a massive fan and supporter of MSE over the years .. the other website i check regularly is hotukdeals .. i noticed the other day the site was down quite a while .. there was a message saying major revamp happening.

Since then ..it's impossible to use .... so slow .. everything takes forever .
Same problem regardless of whether i'm logged on via aol .. or via IE.
Running desktop on xp.

First problem is that the width of a page is about twice that of my screen ... then every click takes ages to happen .. scrolling takes forever ..

Been like this all week now .

Any ideas /suggestions ?

thanks

This is a site I have in my favourites but don't visit regularly so I didn't spot any downtime and tbh I don't see that it looks any different from how I remember it.

It looks and performs OK in FireFox for me and also IE8. Initial load wasn't all that quick considering I'm on 20Mbps cable. Page width before getting a horizontal scroll is ~ 750px.

Not sure what you may have got wrong - all I can suggest is clearing temp files and maybe cookies.
  • kwikbreaks .. done all of that .. do all updates & cleaning everyday so nothing differrent .
Just curious that i have no problems at all with any other website.

does the text look larger than normal? you might have a zoom function activated, that is being remembered for that page

That may account for the width but not the speed - bigger text don't take longer to arrive :)

very true, and thinking of it, you've already instructed to clear all the cache etc. so shouldn't be an issue anyways.

They have just changed the site quite drastically. It's possible, I guess, that this is the cause of it.

I'm using firefox though, but it's worth trying firefox.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Yes, I personally find firefox works best in most cases
