Switiching to Post Office Home Line but on a BT Business Line.

My current situation is I have a BT Business Line, which we're paying an obscene amount for and as it is no longer a business, we wish to switch over to the Post Office's £12 home line deal.

I called up the Post Office helpline and was basically told 'you need to get BT to change the line to domestic before we can do anything'.

Called up BT and they said 'if you change over to domestic line, you'll need to sign up to a 12 month contract'.

So my other option is to cancel the BT phone line (which I'm hoping they won't give me any hassle towards 'cancellation fees' etc as it's out of contract already i.e rolling monthly) BUT the guy at the Post Office helpline said 'there may be a connection charge of £110..which we cannot check until the line is cancelled'!

What should I do? The whole affair is quite stressful as I'm doing it on behalf of my grandma and I'm only 16 years old (my family don't speak English).

Please advise me! I would appreciate it so much.

What's the particular attraction of Post Office Home Phone?

For £12/month you could get inclusive evening and weekend 01/02/03/0845/0870 calls of up to 60 minutes each, inclusive weekend calls to UK mobiles and 40 international destinations, inclusive calls at any time to other Home Phone customersand 10% offcalls to your nominated ‘Loved Ones’ plus a free 60-minute call on their birthdays and Christmas Day.

OK, the first part of that you could get from BT for approximately the same price so it's a question of calculating whether, in the next 12 months, the remainder is worth more than the £110 you might have to pay the Post office (at which point you could move from BT to the Post office for nothing).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
