Current account catch 22 problem!

I have had an account with Abbey for 5 years with overdraft 0f £400. I am a student going into the 3rd year.The problem is I have gone over my limit several times by £10 (at any one time) at the most, but they will not offer me an o/d increase and my credit history is such that I cannot open a student (or other) account anywhere and I really want to leave.
I fully intend to chase bank charge repayments but if I can't open an account, and Abbey might close my one then what can I do?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
