Selling Domain names

I recently paid to keep my domain for another 2 years. During the conversation the guy said if I was only using it as an email address I should sell it as he thought it would be worth something.

I have owned it for over10 years and never used it to host a website- only to get emails redirected from it. The guy suggested a company called Sedo which I have been looking at. I'm sure there are lots more. This is where my question is. How do you highlight your domain amongst thousands of others? Sedo allows you to park your domain which I believe people can then advertise on it. This is meant to get more interest. Is there anything else I can do or am I going about this the completely wrong way.

I have to say I am a complete novice at this so please reply in very clear English . Lol

You could always put it on ebay.

I doubt you'd get anything near what it's worth on ebay.

WebHostingTalk, Digitalpoint, Sedo and similar sites are worth a read.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I have sold a few over the years and found that the easiest way (and the way to get the best price) is just to have a 'holding page' saying that the domain name is for sale.

If it's a noteworthy name then people will check to see if it's available / being used so will then see your holding page with your contact email.

To 'do the deal' use an escrow account so that you can be sure you get the money, once you transfer the domain you won't be able to get it back so be careful !
