auction question

hi question about buying at auction. ↲
if you win, and pay by cheque, show id, and sign the contract immediately after all is well and you have 28 days to complete. What if you have a partner who also signs on the day and is named on the contract but then decides not to continue in partnership?? Can you complete alone and just have their name removed???

I'd have thought that all the auction care about is that somebody signed to take responsibility - and the property completed within X days as per the legal pack. Who completes, who changes their mind, along the way, I'd have thought was not important to them, so long as SOMEBODY does ... and on time.

thanks guys, i guess my worry is whether both signatures mean we jointly own it up to now or is it just at completion that is sorted?

If he doesn't come up with his share of the money (you did agree how much each should contribute didn't you) then I can't see how he can have a claim.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
