Who should I move to from Santander

I am a longstanding customer of Alliance & Leicester and have had no problems at all. Now Santander have taken over that is changing. I rang them this morning as payments into my account are identified only as "faster payments receipts". I queried three deposits but they were unable to identify where any of them had come from. I recognize one but think the second is a duplication of the first. I have absolutely no idea where the third sum has come from. This way of recording payments is ridiculous and I am going to close the account. I would like some help in deciding which bank to change to taking into account the quality of the switching service.

I would switch stuff over yourself.

Regardless of how good the bank/bs is some companies are funny and can't be bothered to comply with banks switching services as they have "rules" saying they can't accept instructions unless they come from the account holder.

It's not that hard to do.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Check out ones which offer cash if you aren't happy with their switching service. Take the Co-Op for example, if you use their switching service and are not satisfied they give you £50. That way if they get everything right then hopefully you'll be happy, and if not then the £50 should make you happy :money:

First Direct and HSBC are the most highly rated on these boards. The Halifax Reward Current account is also popular.

The best choice for you depends on your income/credit rating and how you plan to use your account.

I'm in the process of moving to Barclays and have elected to use their switching service. I only have 2 direct debits, one with Orange and one with Capital One, so we'll see how that goes.

Obviously I'll report any problems on here!

Also, A&L are migrating my/our accounts over this weekend- I cannot access the online banking atm. Thankfully my card still works in the shops otherwise there would have been hell to pay!

Hopefully, having been transferred to Santander's system, it should make things easier closing the account down. This I elected to do myself- it was an option on the Barclays forms.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

Unfortunately I have several direct debits and monthly credits so I think I may go with the Co-op and hope they get it right. Many thanks
