Thanks for this, I'm definately going to do this rather than go to the Salon. I feel so much better knowing that I can at least save on having them off...they look quite nice and natural but going to just concentrate on growing my natural nails and getting them strong.

Did the acrylic come off ok then, was there much residue left on your nails? Did you have to scrape it off?

You will have to scrape the acrylic off. Use the little wooden orange sticks (I think that is what they are called). Soak them for about half an hour and they should scrape off easily. They WILL look awful and be very soft.

I do miss having my nails done.

Can I just double check, when you say acetone, can I just use regular nail varnish remover containing acetone? That is all I seem to be able to find...
  • Top tip here...

Grow your natural nails, file them every couple of days, use a base coat (cheapo Rimmel will do) and rub lip balm into them twice per day. (I kid ye not)

When you have them long enough, buy a gel overwrap kit from Boots (about £10) and it strengthens them.

Hey presto, perfect nails for a fraction of the price! :D

I bought a couple of bottles of acetone yesterday and whipped off my nails no problem..feel much better now as I've done it myself and saved a bit of money too. Looking forward to phoning up and cancelling my appointment.

Well, that money saved will be put to good use - paying my dentist this weekend!!!!
  • My wife asked me to do her nails for her the other day. After making a mess of them for about half an hour, she realised I wasn't going to be giving her the perfect nails she wanted lol

  • I miss my acrylic nails ... I haven't had them done for 6 weeks ( mum's treat last time) and i feel naked without them and strangely lacking in confidence without them as I meet people on a daily basis as part of my job - I'm going to call the college locally and see if i can have them done there. Superb idea.

  • For years I had acrylic nails done, then i got into debt and couldn't afford the contant upkeep so reduced the amount of times I went.

I missed them like you so what I did was get my ex to buy me a home course in acrylic nails (essential nails). I have since qualified as a nail technician and do my own nails (not easy and takes a bit of practice), I also use it to earn extra money in my spare time - mainly do friends ad family, but it all helps!
