morning all
my mum has just brought a new laptop from john lewis (acer aspire was the make) and it's already got windows 7 installed on it. there is no cd in the box it came with
the system is asking for her activation key, she's found this on the box and it's not accepting it (saying "invalid product key")
does anyone have any idea how she can get round this problem or what she can do? i also got a new pc last weekend but brought windows 7 separately so i have not personally come across this kind of problem before
many thanks in advance:T

>she's found this on the box,
Is there a Certificate on the laptop itself (maybe on the base, on a hologram sticker)? Sounds wrong though, a new laptop shouldn't be asked for a key anyways!
Other than that, take it back to JL!0 -
thanks for all the quick replies, ive just forwarded her this link with the ideas so hopefully she'll be able to sort it0

Activation key for Windows 7 or for Office?0

Did the laptop look brand new ? was th box sealed or had the seal been broken in front of your mum at JL ?0

The key will not be exposed to prying eyes on the outside of the box...try under the laptop.0

My bet is its for Microsoft Office as the Windows install is pre-activated. The key on the bottom is for Windows and to get a MS Office one will require one to be purchased.0
