She should put her primary carer I would imagine. Whoever she lives with.... which I would assume is the carer.

Is she doing this online or on paper?

    It won't.

The carer needs to do an application.

    http://www.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk/portal/page?_pageid=153,4680119&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

Look on that page, the right bit where you register theres a bit which says:

    Parents & partners
Register and support a full-time student finance application

They must register to support an application.

oh i see thanks i new the carer had to fill something in but i thought my niece had to put estimate in and provide carers name and address that was the bit confusing me, thats great thank you so much
  • she should NOT put her carers details down as they are not necessary only parents or adopted parents (& step parents) go on the form

    she needs to indicate that
"At any point from the age of 16 to the start of your course, you have not been under the legal care of your parents; and, for three months or more, you have been in the custody or legal care of, or have been given accommodation by, a local authority"

this includes foster care, she will need a letter from the council to say that she has been in foster care

    Indeed this is correct.

she should have a social worker who will be filling in the right paperwork, and organising relevant finance.

She should speak to the SW asap!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Print off a paper PN1, and mark the box in Section 7, making sure to send the evidence with it.

Don't forget that she can claim maintenance funding for the holidays as she's a care leaver.

thank you i will be seeing her today and we wil print this off she originally ticked the box about under the care of the local authority but then at the end of the application where it gives you an estimate of entitlement and under maintenance grant it said N/A so i rang the helpline for her to be told she cannot claim the grant unless she ticks income assessed and puts carers details, we will do it on paper copy and tick not living with parnets etc so not income assessed will she still get the grant she is waiting for contact from the social workers as apparently the one that did her crb for uni has left

sorry its a long post, but also she is getting ema how does she make sure she continues to get this ?

    thank you very much
