Gas back boiler servicing

I have a baxi bermuda back boiler and occasionally the major utilities have special offers on for servicing. i've also read that it's not necessary to have the boiler serviced and money is better spent by having a carbon monoxide alarm. I will be getting a carbon monoxide alarm anyway. As mine is a back boiler in a chimney, is this advice relevant.

Good afternoon: your BBU should be serviced annually and a CO alarm is also advisable. More here

No. I would strongly suggest that anyone having a Gas central heating BBU and fire should have it serviced properly and ,if they find it of re-assurance, purchase a CO detector though of course,properly installed and maintained appliances are highly unlikely to cause any issues.

Back boilers are open flued appliances (not room sealed) and in the event of incomplete combustion they can release CO into the room. This can be caused by blocked or insuffifient room ventilation, the appliance itself might not be faulty. It is essential that they are at least safety checked annually.

At 1.28% concentration CO in air: Unconsciousness after 2-3 breaths. Death in less than three minutes.
