Unusual size shower tray / enclosure 740 x 740

Please help if you can!
I want to replace my shower which dates from 1991 - it's recessed so only need a door to enclose it, but the problem is the size of the tray, which is 740 x 740.
To the left of the shower is a wall which seems to exist only to be the left hand wall of the shower enclosure - the other side of the wall has a basin in a vanity unit.
To the right of the shower is a cupboard which housed the hot water tank until Monday when we got a new boiler. The bottom half of the cupboard is unusable because it's above the stairs so slopes to form the ceiling of the stairs. The top half is empty.
Can I get a 740 square tray & door? Can I remove the wall between shower & sink to fit 760 square or would that be a huge problem? Could I have a rectangular tray 740 x 1135 or something and just have it sticking out? (There's room but how would the doors work in that case?)
Any advice appreciated - I'm not particularly visionary when it comes to building work as I'm too scared!

Are you sure it's not a 760 x 760, and just set into the wall and tiled down to? Some doors go down to 740mm, I've just down an en-suite like this.0

Ha! yes same problem... same age of house, same design of shower, same original size of tray. Big hassle. Probably why my ensuite has been an abandoned job for 2 years now!
Couldn't find a tray, but you can get ones with a fairly wide flat top rim so my plan is to remove the lower plaster board off the 3 surrounding walls to get the extra width to get a 760 in. If the rim is wide enough should still be able to tile down onto it but don't know what else to do. I blame the French! foisting metric on us is probably the cause.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -
If you are going to move the wall, then you may as well go the hole hog and get an 800 tray (800 by 1100/1200??).
740mm is tight and if you are changing things I would definitely look to go bigger.0 -
Thanks for advice - is definitely 740 - just waiting to hear from plumber (who I asked to source the tray! Unlikely but worth a shot!) If we can get rid of the wall a 760 or 800 would be great - but if not, has anyone sourced a 740 tray / door?0
