My move

I have received much advice and help on here and it has certainly reassured me through what has been a quite frustrating and I suppose stressful time. But it has all come to a happy ending.
I had been told that I would get the keys to my house on Friday 1st September so I had booked the day off from work in advance.
On the morning of the 1st I, along with my cousin, went to the supermarket to get some cleaning equipment because I suspected the house won’t have been given a clean before the previous owner left. As I was returning home from the supermarket the phone went and it was the solicitor calling to let me know the keys were ready for collection.
So back into Town I went to get the keys, full of anticipation and excitement now the whole process was just about at an end…at last.
I went and picked up another of my friends. Her and my cousin were going to give the house a good clean for me. I owe them both big time as they did a fantastic job. During this time I was offering them my help (supervising) and unpacking the electrical goods that I had had to buy. The furniture had been as had the carpets and curtains so that had saved me money and time.
Come tea-time I’d had enough. I was in no real rush to get moved in as I am only moving from out of my parents from round the corner so I went off to the pub to buy my two excellent helpers some well earned alcohol.
As soon as I got up on Saturday I was straight up to the house to continue sorting things. I was off to Old Trafford in the afternoon for the England game so I did not have too much time. I went shopping for some extra things that I needed like quilt’s, sheets, bins etc.
Sunday was a similar day as I was going to watch a rugby league match in the afternoon. But I had time to go with a friend to collect my washing machine from Comet which fitted perfectly in the kitchen.
Monday night after work was the first meal I had in the house. I had been to Ikea for a nest of tables and a nice chest of drawers for my bedroom. I didn’t have time to put the chest of drawers together. A nice Indian take away from the local restaurant followed and then I spent the night at my parents.
Luckily for me, there was a power cut at work yesterday and so I left early giving me the chance to finally sort out my clothes and get them up to my house. My mum, bless her, ironed everything as I was assembling the drawers. It was then time for a final good clean, taking rubbish to the garage and just sorting things where I want them.
Plumber came and sorted my washing machine, he is back Thursday to connect gas up to my hob. There are a few other things I would like doing, as an electrician by trade I can do a few of them myself. Some are high priority; some are things I want to do to the house all in good time. But there is no real rush.
I slept there last night and I just love the place. I still can’t believe I am legally a homeowner, with a steep mortgage to suit. Feels strange to have left home after 28 years and I suppose it may be lonely at times as I am living alone.
It’s certainly been an experience this last couple of months or so since I first put in an offer on the house. I would be lying if I said it had been enjoyable. But I have certainly learned a lot and pleased that I have gone through with it.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
