Work Shirts

I start my new job on Monday after finally graduating University this week! I have a few pairs of smart trousers but I am struggling to get work shirts that are not too old for me.

I did get one out of Dorothy Perkins but they only really had one style. Also tried Next but not many in there.

So I was wondering where everyone else gets their tops for work!!

Thanks

:)

I'll be interested to see replies on this one too (just started my first office job recently).

I bought a couple of different colours of this one from BHS of all places! (after trying all the usual suspects) http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/860661

I really like the sleeves (kinda tulip petal) and the general design. Not sure if they have many sizes left as it's in the sale.

I think I must be a bit of an odd shape as I usually feel really restricted and uncomfortable in shirts but I've not had that problem with these ones!

Oh, and this one (which WASN'T reduced when I bought it - GRRRR!) http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/860600

Matalan does good work stuff. Also if you are not looking to spend a lot try ebay?

I haven't looked in BHS in years but the ones you got zerodashzero are really nice! Will need to have a look. I also think I am a bit odd shaped for shirts as I have a relatively small waist but large chest so they often make me look huge!!

Thanks iceicebaby, I love the bargains in Matalan. Didn't think there was one near me but I have just checked their store locator and there is so I will be in tomorrow weather permitting!

Matalan, George at Asda, Tesco, TU at Sainsburys all have decent basic shirts for cheap.

How about you get a few cheap pairs to tide you over as you need them asap, and then upgrade them as you go along for nicer ones that you find?

Get down to Primark if you can, they do work shirts, excellent quality, for 4 pounds each, even cheaper if there is a sale.

I agree with the above - I personally like Tesco's for basic work shirts - they also have some that are a bit pricier and a bit more special for days when you feel you want to impress. Certainly try Matalan too as they have some bargains. High Street wise, New Look seem too fashionable for decent workwear and DP never has anything I like in.

I used to get really good work tops from H&M. They have short sleeved blouses (with a slight stretch and no buttons - good for those who have problems with gaping!) and they're only £10. The sleeves are similar to those that zerodashzero posted. They come in loads of colours too and last a long time. They also do smarter, long-sleeved shirts with buttons for around £15 but these may be too "old" depending on what look you're going for.

Primark, my OH buys the slim fit ones around £4 - £8 ish depending on material. They all wash and iron really well.

george at asda used to to decent plain shirts - suitable for work, for a cheap price. i got loads for work years ago, i gave them to my mum when i lost weight, she still wears them freaquently. i wear a uniform now - but if i needed work tops asda would be my first point of call even though it is in the next town.

Does it have to be shirts? Unless it's a uniform requirement, I'd be inclined to go for something a bit more interesting. Hope that doesn't sound rude - I'm just really not a fan of shirt and trousers as a default option.
