I have currently got Virgin Media phone but would like to go back to a BT line because many providers give you free 0845/0870 numbers.
But BT price for a new line is £130 but on the phone they have agreed to knock £50 off. Which phone company will be the cheapest to install me a new line?
Also there is a BT socket at my house which is all wired up, so i dont understand why they are charging £130 connection fee.

Current BT offer is £29.99 but will require you to take out a minimum terms contract for line rental and calls.
£130 is the standard reconnection charge and has been for a long time, it's irrelevant whether you have a line box installed or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks, do you know how long the contract is for that offer? 12 or 18 months?0

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/31323821#Comment_31323821Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Is the £29.99 offer still available? BT website page says until 30th June not September.0

i have been looking into using my phone line again...it's already installed but hasn't been used since february when i cancelled sky...
i have phoned bt about this...they do not charge you for reconnecting, but after 6 months of the line being idle or not used, there is the possibility that if someone needs it, it will be given to them...in that case you would need to pay the £128.99 to get reconnected...
so you get 6 months from date of disconnection, after which there is the chance the line will be given to someone else...
you can check the current status of your line by plugging your phone in...if you get a dial tone you still have your line at that time...0 -

If your reason for moving is for 0845/0870 calls, you could avoid the connection fee and expensive per minute charges by using Telesave.
Call 0800 066 400 from your cable line to join. £10 credit/debit card top up required.
Call 0800 066 2266 to make a call.
0845 calls are 4.5p/min daytime and 1.5p/min evening/weekend
0870 calls are 1.5p/min daytime and 1p/min evening/weekend
Calls are charged to next penny, minimum call 4p, no connection fees.
A quick work-round whilst you decide what to do. It avoids that horrible connection fee anyway.
