HSBC debit card

I finally got my HSBC bank account opened and have received a letter with account number, sort code and a welcome pack. The have also sent a form for my security number. However I have not yet received the debit card and PIN. The welcome letter says they might sent it to a local branch for security reasons.
Do they usually send debit cards to be picked up at branches or do they use the post?
Also this is a green bank account, but I want a cheque book, so I suppose that as soon as I can access the Internet banking service I will be able either to order a cheque book or turn the account into a normal bank account.
Regards

They have sent my card to a branch once because my mum send the card onto another address (where I was temp living) so PO thought fraud was going on and sent it back! Doh.
Not sure if you can order a cheque book online, I can't see an option to.0 -
You can send a message through internet banking asking for a cheque book. Last time I did this, I received three. Each had a different variation of my name (Mr A Surname, Mr Firstname Surname and Firstname Middlename Surname)
