Sun Dried Tomatoes

A sort-of OS question as I don't like waste and don't want to throw them away.
I have searched the forum and can only see recipes which seem to use the ones in jars. Any ideas of how to use dried ones up... I'm going to have a go at soaking them but wondered if any ideas how to use them as is?
Thanks

I sometimes chop them up and add them to homemade pizza dough - they plump up as it rises.
It doesn't take long for them to soak though, in my experience, and then you can use them like the ones in jars. They are usually ready to use at the same time as the pasta if I start them at the same time (in boiling water).
Do try them before throwing them away - they are lovely.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -
Just chop them up and use in any recipe that uses tomatoes; they just have a more intense tomato flavour. i would recommend sticking to italian style recipes as they do bring out the flavour - so a spag bol/tom pasta sauce would be ideal.0

Soak them in warm water 30mins before using them

I usually use them in sandwiches with low fat soft cheese and salad - I do use the ones in jars but if you soak the dry ones it should work with no problem. You might have to cut them up as they might be slightly chewier than the jarred ones.

OH once made chilli con carne with a Jamie Oliver recipe, and in that he had chopped up sun dried tomatoes. I think it gave it extra depth of flavour, although I wouldn't spend the extra money just for that normally.0

Great, some excellent ideas there, thanks. I had already thought that tomato-based sauces were the way to go with soaked ones. Thanks.
They're not something I would usually buy but they were cheap when Julian Graves had their half price sale.

g'day,
just back from italy, where I bought a kilo of the above - loose - from a farmers' market.
now I'm home I'm pretty clueless as to what to do with them! D'oh!!
I could just put them in olive oil, but I get the feeling they'll need some preparation first.
I did a quick scan over google but sites I've looked at seem concerned with preserving from stage 1 (i.e. picked from the plant).
I'd be well grateful if anyone's got some ideas.

When I was in Julian Graves the other week they had a load of bags of sun dried tomatoes on clearance and so I got two 500g bags. I don't really know why except that I love a bargain, but now I have no idea what to use them in. Do I have to reconstitute them? Has anyone got any ideas as I would hate to waste them.Jane

Hi, there - I like them on pizzas and in HM bread :j
There's an older thread - sun dried tomatoes. I'll merge this one to that later.
