Pension or Propperty which will secure my future?

hi guys,

I am currently thinking about my future investment plans and what i can do to secure my money in later years.

As the recient news about the pensions and the way things look in the future are quite bleak, Im thnking what would be the safest way to secure a better financial future?

Would it be in property or would it be in pensions? ... any help would be great thanks!

the recent news about personal pensions has been very positive. Its occupational pensions which have had a bit of negative news in recent days although for most people the cost/benefits of these are still far superior than the alternatives.
Would it be in property or would it be in pensions?

Depends on the type of pension and how you invest or in respect of the property, how you would pay for it and the taxes.

  • I would say property without doubt. I have invested in various properties and I very rarely encountered a loss. I see property as my alternative to my pension. Although it does depend on what pension you have and also what property investments you have or what property investments you are considering

Thankyou for replying to my thread,

I know that there is some companys out there which are offering a small investment in properties and you receive huge returns in a long term investment,

I researched into a few of them and some of the returns that they 'anticipate' are amazing! and don't compare to a normal state pension or company pensions.

Hovever i just dont know what would be the safest and secure option?

In looking at achieve any financial goal, I'm not sure why you would want to rely on one or other.

Using a property to fund your retirement is highly speculative, particularly as you are borrowing to invest in just one asset class, and effectively one share in that asset class. In addition, if the market goes down there is little you can do, whereas with investments/pensions you can often sell and buy very quickly.

Clearly, anyone recommending such a course of action clearly doesn't get paid for providing professional financial advice!

Then you will know that a number of these companies went to the wall in the recent credit crunch leaving a lot of their investors facing bankruptcy.

If something looks to good to be true, it usually is.

Hi Brian thankyou for your comment,

I have looked into a few companys and the only one that seems to be the safest is a company called 'Friendly Invest Limited' or something ..

They seem to have a good deal, i dont know if anyone has heard of them? can you give me any comments or feedback about them, i dont want to rush into anything and make the wrong decision.

Thankyou once again for your advice.
  • I agree brian, i think the best solution for you adam is to speak to a professional financial advisor. What has worked for me might not work for you. But make sure you look into every possible investment and dont invest your money until your 100% sure

Unregulated scheme, no consumer protection and is of the type that you typically hear about failing or going bankrupt. Some will work. Some will fail. I wouldnt go near it.

  • Hi Adam, I think you have expressed views that many people are feeling at the moment so I wouldn't worry. Doing your research is a good idea. Ive had a look at the Friendly Invest company you spoke about and find it comforting that on several occassions they recommend seeking advice from an FSA. To me this suggests that they have confidence in their investment. Perhaps further research into their company would be a good idea. I would stress the importance of research when making your choice.

I've just had a look at that company. Neither Dunstonh nor I would touch it with a barge pole. Good luck to you, you'll need it.
