Plugs; can i run washing mach and tumble dryer from same one?

I have only one socket near my washing machine and separate tumble dryer. Can i run them from the same plug, with an adaptor, whilst using the machines at the same time?

Safer to get the single socket replaced with a double.

No in one word, each appliance will take approx 13 A so possibility of 26 A from one single socket will overload it as it not rated to that current.
You need to change it to a double socket, there are products on the market that convert a single socket to a double socket without the need to chop the wall out etc, however depending where the socket is may mean it is notifiable under part p building regs so best to get a part p qualified sparky in to do the job, average cost would be £40 - £50 and would take no longer than half an hour.
