Did anyone watch the program on TV last night with the Amish group in it?
Looking at their walk in store cupboard, its was wonderful.
Full of all sorts of jams/chutney/preserves home made juice etc.

Not that I want to live the life that they do, but there are some elements that I would love.....and their store cupboard space would be a start, followed by their houses, then their land..........

Zara stop licking the keyboard, that's disgusting ! Annie you may have the "smoking" shed. What prog is this with the Amish in it ? I'm not sure how I feel about them, everybody seems to think they're perfect but any sort of closed religious society makes me come over all itchy LOL!

Yep - I'm following the series and have just finished watching Episode 3 on 4OD. Definitely jealous (slaps wrist!) at the store cupboard. As you say - just "some elements". I wouldnt want all those children - or the bad teeth. I could live with the rest of the lifestyle okay and wouldnt think any worse of it than my own life - and might prefer it. As long as my teeth were looked after okay and I wasnt expected to have any children (but I'm too old for that anyway now:D).

That storecupboard WAS nice - and I look enviously at the serried ranks of shelving on Mormon food storage videos too. Errm...I have to remember that just how much food can one person eat though - so just one typical larder from an older-style British house - of a size about big enough to walk in and turn round would do for me.

I would LOVE a big farmhouse kitchen though - big table, Welsh dresser, squashy sofa and a rocking chair....none of your high-tech look granite worksurfaces for me....

Guess the nearest I'll come is when I rip out my existing kitchen at some time in the future and have solid plain wood units in Amish style fitted. There still wont be any room though for even one of those items of furniture I would like in my kitchen - but I'm going to have to try and work out some way that a tiny modern kitchen can be styled to allow for the type of food I keep in my kitchen (ie kilner type jars full of grains/pulses/etc - all of which I want right in front of my eyes, where I can instantly see what I have and work out what to have for dinner). So - the kitchen will be as Amish style as a tiny little room like mine is allows for...

If anyone has links for "how to fit a quart into a pint pot" kitchen designs they'd be welcome.

Shall I vouch for you Mardatha if I get there first? "It's okay guv..she's an argumentative biddy - but her heart's in the right place....so can we open the gate for her then?":rotfl::rotfl:
