Just enjoying a custard donut after my trip to Mr S - 49p for 4! Did very well but cannot fathom why nappies are a different price EVERY week????? I spent 23.00 after a fiver in points was deducted. and 6.50 of that was Dds shopping. I was naughty and took all 3 packs of whoopsied bacon off the shelf, mind you the place was deserted apart from those people who buy luxury goods - do they really drink champagne every weekend ? I think we will be living off pies this week as they were so cheap but it won't do any harm one week out of 52 :o

Have Dgs tomorrow till Sunday as Dd is off to a pamper party, much cheaper than going out for her friends birthday. So my craft work is on hold till he has gone, although he sits and watches me knit for ages I dont think it will be safe me cross stitching while he is around :rotfl:

Right switch the flipping pc off woman and get the pots done! Found a nice simple apron pattern on the web so thats next weeks project, covers birthdays and a couple for the spring fair.

Mardatha, I too have been sowing seeds.
I have done my chillis, sweet peppers (don't know why I bother as I need a hot summer-no greenhouse, but I like them) salad leaves, and today Jerusalem artichokes are going in after I have cleared and sorted that bit of my garden.

I'd love a big old fashioned Victorian walled kitchen garden, complete with gardener to do the heavy stuff ;) aside from saving money, much nicer to pop outside to get tatties than 10min walk and lug back heavy bag without doing back in or get in car 20 min drive to MrS, spend too much money on stuff you didn't want in addition to the tatties (if you remember you wanted them in the first place!) then drive home again only to find the nearest parking space is 200' from your front door:mad:
By time you've done all that you could have dug up tatties, made a meal and eaten it.

Do some Sainsbugs open 24 hours ? Ours is 8-10 and never has any decent reductions. Plus its a good bit away and I need to go early or there is no veg left.

Ours is 8-10 as well and the best time for reductions I've found is between 5 and 7pm.

Tesco is 24 hours near me, my MrS superstore (size of gatwick airport ) tried it but they were unable to keep the shelves filled enough!!! so now opens 7am to midnight.

I find my little co op the best for reductions, never much in MrS when I go.

Just thought I'd add a bit on the hen front.

This morning, DH, DD, DS and I have worked in shifts to lug wheelbarrows full of tree shreddings into the chicken run. The chap who cut down our dead tree dumped a load of this mulch on our drive as he has to pay to get rid of it (we asked him to btw - he is also giving us free wood :j).

ANYWAY, we are all shattered but we covered about half the run (which is big - about 5m x 20m) with this stuff and it looks and smells absolutely lovely, as it is largely made up of eucalyptus and pine. From the back door, it makes the chicken run look like a woodland glade rather than the busiest parts of the Somme, which is a definite improvement. Most importantly, the chickens LOVE it and are scratching busily in it as I type.

The word "bird-brain" was coined with my chickens in mind - the gate to the run has been open all morning and they have half an acre of (not very) lush grass or a whole stretch of riverbank they could be free-ranging in but they have decided to stay within the fence - presumably in the hope that my being in the garden means I'll be bringing corn soon. Stupid birds.
