Mardatha chuck - you can EAT chickweed. Get your own back on it and get out the knife and fork - not the spade.....:D
You could try this one for starters:
ORANGE AND CHICKWEED SALAD
1-2 handfuls chickweed
1 orange - peeled and segmented
oil
ground pepper
Tear chickweed into manageable pieces and place in bowl with the orange segments
Squeeze any remaining juice from the orange pith
- drizzle over a little olive oil and season with pepper
- toss (salad that is!) and serve

Other possibilities include chickweed coleslaw, spicy chicksweed rice and so on.
I've not yet gotten round to trying chickweed myself - I plan on growing my own actually and have got a packet of seeds for it.0 -
buying seeds for chickweed ? I could export the stuff ! Yes I have tried it in soup, it works. I tried kale then chickweed then turnip leaves then chard. It all gives the same soup but if you use too much kale it changes the taste.
Just have to make sure the RV doesnt see it going in. He wouldnt be happy to know I'm feeding him on weeds... !!0 -
you could always mix it with the wild garlic your yeurghed about on the other thread, would probably mask the taste of everything else!!!0

hubby had just come back from FF and he bought 10 packs of sugar.... they didnt say anything about max amount you can buy, BUT... there wernt many bags of sugar there..... so it def looks as though people are stocking up.....
i am going to get more during the week, as sugar will not go off,Work to live= not live to work0 -
Just been to Mr S, had to laugh at everyones baskets and compared them to mine - all economy and reduced stuff. Plant labels - 37p, plant pots 69p and a ladybird house 1.49 - saved over a fiver!
Made banana loaf last night - on economy 7 - about 60p for a huge loaf. My Dd is getting ready for weaning Dgs and is letting him taste tiny bits of things. She is so pleased that he wil be able to have such pure foods, I even grew baby carrots for his first meal. She came home mad the other day as all her friends keep urging her to buy baby rice, apparently Michael won't be having it, when he has organic carrots and pure fruit to mix with potatoes and real rice. She was very pleased last night to have homemade bread and jam - and she is the new generation of mums but is the only one in her large circle of friends who thinks like us!:TClearing the junk to travel light

Regarding home made yoghourt, we have an electric Tchibo yoghourt maker - 7 glass jars with lids and a covered container which acts as a warmer. The recipe is one carton of plain yoghourt and one litre of UHT milk. You divide the yoghourt between the jars then top up with the milk and stir to mix. Put lids on jars then put in warmer for 7 hours. Take out and chill in fridge. The instruction book says the fat content of the milk must match the fat content of the starter yoghourt for it to work. I tried it with semi skimmed milk and low fat yoghourt but it was very runny. Since then I have stuck to Yeo Valley full fat yoghourt and full fat UHT milk, and it works every time. 7 jars for about 14 - 16 pence a jar, and one jar can be kept back to use as the next batch's starter. I flavour ours with sugar or honey or good quality jam, also soft fruits are good with it.One life - your life - live it!0
