Trees Felled ~ Law ?
I live by some local woods which has been there untouched for as long as I can remember which is at least 30 years and I have walked that area wvwry day since.I got myself a dog 12 months ago. It is an area roughly.around two miles big and has walkways which have been surrounded by trees . thousands of them. Anyway 6 months ago I noticed a few trees were suddenly chopped down so I started to take pictures and every week different tree would be removed and one side of the.woods has been totally destroyed and a type of road has been built and there is a few trees which are still on the ground, some 70- 100 foot which whoever is chopping them down has yet to remove. To.cut a long story short I went round with an official from the council yesterday and my local Mp and the expert so he calls himself said all the trees have died from old age, also said that two trees which were felled week were never there even though you can.clearly see where they were plus i have photos. I then showed him an area in the woods where they e actually burning the trees and he said.that they had been there on the floor.twenty years even though I.know for.a.fact and have pictures less thn 2 months old.proving they.were not there. Basically despite all my photo..videos. and fact I walk them woods every day, the council expert didnt want to know. The reason I am so concerned.is my house is only ten feet away from a fifty foot drop and with people chopping down huge.trees at bck of house I am scared the house will subside. Does anyone know how you can tell if a tree is felled.or.gone over due to old age so I.know.wht.I am talking about.next time I speak to myocal MP.

If all the work is recent then try google earth (satellite pics likely to be a few years old) to see whether you can confirm to your council that trees have only just been felled.
However, it may well be that the owner has the right to fell trees (if no TPO), though there may be limitations on the amount allowed to be felled each year. Often trees are thinned to allow the remainder to grow straighter/taller/thicker.
With seasoned wood prices increasing we can expect to see more woodland management which, if part of a rotational system, will be beneficial to wildlife.
If you are concerned that cutting adjacent trees could cause ground movement and affect your house why not take that up with the wood's owner and try to reach an amicable arrangement?0 -
I was going to say virtually the same as Rhiwfield, who does the land belong to and why shouldn't they be allowed to cut trees down?
Forests are generally not there to look good, in most of the UK, they are there to be looked after and harvested.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
For large scale felling the Forestry Commission would be involved and would probably have issued a felling licence. Felling woodland does not destroy it.0

Thanks for your replies but the trouble is no-one seems to know who owns the land. Is there anywhere on the internet I could find that information?
Also forgot to mention that there is some sort of protection order on the land and has been for years, something to do with shale. I think that`s how you spell it.0 -
If the property is registered you should be able to track down owner details online for a small fee. HM Land Registry0
