switching when I know I'm moving in a few month- early termination fees
Hi
Are currently trying to sell our house but today have been sent letter from edf as coming to end of fixed tariff.
in 1 month they move us to their standard rate - which is over 2x as expensive as the one we've been on!!!
now - if our house sells tomorrow (i'm an optimist!) then then i might only be on the tariff for a month - but if it takes 6 months then it'll start to get very expensive.
i won't want to move my tariff when i move as moving into husband's place...
anyone got any experience of a similiar situation....looking at the edf website - they charge an early termination fee. does anyone know if this is normal - or can suggest someone who doesn't do this so i don't get stuck on the expensive tariff??

If the standard tariff is twice as much as the one you are just leaving, you are currently on a very cheap deal indeed and one that is unlikely to be available again.
If you are hoping to move soon, choose a tariff that has no early exit fees, (sometimes moving home is a reason to not incur early exit fees when otherwise you would for leaving the tariff early ... so check that too) or otherwise ensure you take account of anticipated early exit charges when deciding whether a specific tariff is the best for you"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Many companies will waive the early exit fee if you are moving house.
Also you need to get the exit fees into perspective. You can save, in a month or two on a cheaper tariff, the amount of the exit fees.0 -
Hi
EDF termination fees are only if you are changing supplier, if you move home you wont get charged

p.s best tariff is online saver version 6 tariff or annual fix version 2

true - thanks all, good points
£25 quid exit fee over a minimum couple of months guess i may just have to swallow...and won't be long till i'm better off having switched.
now...off to find a good deal...0
