What to do....

Hi.
At the moment me and my partner are claiming Housing Benefit, Joint JSA, Tax Credits (we have a 1 yr old) and Child Ben.
However my partner has signed up with a few agencies to do some labouring work. The thing is its all temp work and nothing is guaranteed. Its good money if he can get the work but if there is no work then we will be screwed! If it was just us to think about he would take the job no worries but as we have a toddler to think about is it worth the gamble? What do other people do who do this type of work?
What will happen to our benefits? On the forms it asks all the questions about ur gross income and hours you work....how do you answer these?
Any advise would be great, thanks.
