After B Feeding - B's soooo sore

I am still breastfeeding my 1 year old (early morning feed about 6:00am!) despite going back to work when she was 4 months old. Admittedly I have tried to stop a couple of times, the first time being just before I went back to work (I expressed enough and froze it so she could have breast milk until she was 6 months!!!), the last time being when was she was 9 months. Part of me would like to stop as for me (and OH!!) I feel enough is enough) but then that time just me and little one on the sofa at 6am until 6:45am when I get up for work is sooooo special. Also, quite selfishly at weekends, a breastfeed gets little one back to sleep so I can grab a bit of a lie in!
Whats putting me off stopping even more is the discomfort as described by OP. When i've tried to stop before, I have been so uncomfortable at work. I tried to stop on a Friday to give myself the weekend to adjust but come Monday I was still very uncomfortable. I think I might have to take a few days off and persevere. Hope you feel better soon OP, ((very gentle hugs for you))!Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
I'm bf my 2 1/2 year old, and the WHO recommend bf until at least 2 years old and then for as long as both mother and child want. The natural age of weaning is around 6 years old, although I hope it's before then for us!
OP, have you tried hot flannels on your boobs in the bath and massage with your knuckles. Watch out for any really sore patches or redness as it could be a blocked duct. Hope it goes well xx0 -
I am feeding my just-about-one-year-old and she has 4-5 feeds in 24 hours so won;t be stopping naurally any time soon - I plan to feed till 2 now. I have a friend who is feeding her 5yo and it doesn;t seem weird to me. More weird, surely, to feed them the milk of another species (cow)?
Anyway, here's a link on natural weaning ages http://www.kathydettwyler.org/detwean.html:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I can imagine the health benefits but isn't the 5 year old at school or is she home educating?0 -

He goes to school. You assume he is feeding all day! He only has one feed a day I think, if that.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Well done for feeding for so long.
If you start to feel fluey make sure you are not getting mastitis. I've had it 3 times, once at the beginning, and twice towards the end when we were cutting down on feeds and given up.
Good luck.0 -
If you are using cabbage leaves, put them in the fridge not the freezer (you can get freezer burn otherwise) Also try to avoid anything which can stimulate the breasts. Should start to ease soon anyway. Well done for feeding so long.xx0

No I didn't think he would be feeding all day as a child this age couldn't rely mainly on breast milk for nutrition.
Was just curious I guess to see when the feed was slotted in - prob before bedtime I expect - I have never come across anyone still breast feeding a school age child before and was just being nosey

I have to say I've never quizzed my friend on the details, but I imagine it is after school or at bedtime. She hasn;t fed him in public for a long time though.
Online, I know lots of women feeding school-age children and from what they say it seems to be ad hoc, when the child asks for it, but usually in circumstances of tiredness/pain/upset, as a comforter. It doesn;t seem to be a set feed time.
I'm curious myself now! Might have to ask my friend.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
