Getting DLA looked at and change of GP

In May, I put in a new application for DLA and put what was then my current GP's details on the form.

Since then, I have moved and have informed DWP of this. However, I haven't informed them of new GP change yet.

Last week, I went to make an appointment to get more medication and was told I need to re-register. I've done this but don't have my new NHS card yet and don't know who my new GP is.

Am I allowed to phone up DWP and tell them "this is my new GP practise address. However, I currently don't have a GP"?

Also, when I was living in London, I was put on some medication and was told to take this 4 times a day and put this on the forms. I went to get some more last week and have now been told t take it whenever I rquire it. Sometimes, this can be more or less than 4 times a day, depding on what kind of day I'm having, what day it is (I need it more towards the end of the week) and how my eyes are generally feeling. Do I need to tell them it's now changed? However, there's no definitive amount of times I need it. So far, I've had 2 days with not needing it at all, 1 where I've needed it once and 1 where I've needed it 3 times. (and 2 of those 3 times, I've needed help)

  • I don't have a specific GP that is assigned to me as there is more than one at the surgery I'm registered at. Whenever I'm asked for my GP details I just put the name of the senior partner and then the surgery address. Perhaps you could do this, give your surgery a ring I bet they'll let you know what to do. :)

Thats exactly what I do as I can see one of about 8 doctors although there are 2 I prefer it's not always possible to see them.

I was told by the surgery that when a request comes in such as those from DLA the doctor you name wouldnt always reply anyway. Thats what detailed computerised records are for, any one of them or even a medical secretary could do it with one of the partners signing it off.

It might be best just to leave what GP you had in the form as your new GP isn't going to know you that well and maybe hasn't even seen you yet whereas the GP that you put on the form will have more information and may even remember who you are so could more acurately complete the form.

With regards to the medication I wouldn't worry about it as that doesn't make a difference. It only makes a difference if it has an effect on your care or mobility needs.

In my case it does. I need help taking it (I make a mess otherwise:o) and can't see for about 10 minutes after.

Oops  - In that case I'd go down the line of the extra supervision (care) you require as a result of your medication which would have more of an impact.
