Account transfer service

Right, I've sent off my forms for Barclays and they will switch everything over for me, but I have one question, regarding continuous payment authorities on cards.

I had a regular payment coming off my A&L card each month (PDUK loan) and a couple of months ago I cancelled my A&L card to stop these payments going through and set up a repayment plan.

What I would like to know is do continuous payment authorities on a card get transferred over when you use a switching service along with DDs and SOs?

I don't expect a problem, but I refuse to be one of these forum posters who comes crying for help because something has gone wrong that they hadn't bargained for. Forewarned is forearmed as they say.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

If you've cancelled any repayment on the card and are paying this 3rd part company in another way, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, however if, indeed, it is a 'regular payment' (recurring payment as-was,) then simply cancelling the card will not cancel those payments.

What will happen is, shortly after the next payment is due, you'll be getting another bill from A&L for your 'closed card' asking you to pay up, since A&L cannot refuse to pay regular payments - you must cancel/change card with the company taking the payment. A&L cannot refuse to pay/cancel on your behalf any recurring payments, even if you've asked for the card to be closed.

To repeat - if you've already come to some other payment arrangement with the 3rd party company, there shouldn't be a problem. If you haven't, you need to speak to them soonest.

No. Regular payments are a 3rd way of paying, not included with the transfer services the banks provide.

You must contact the company directly and ask them to change the account they're charging.

No, because no details are held on file at A&L.

However, is there a danger that PDUK may reinstate the CPA? If so, you're likely to run up significant unauthorised overdraft charges (of £5 per day) at A&L.

Might be a good idea to keep a close eye on things there.

It's a bit late now, and it must have been said many times before, but continuous card payment authorities are not a good idea at all because you can't stop them. Direct Debits are much to be preferred as you are in complete control.
