Gloss Acrylic Kitchen Doors or silk finish

Further kitchen advice needed please
I am definitely having slab front contemporary looking doors. I have narrowed it down to either
Wentworths Cucina Colore (aka John Lewis Colour Collection) in silk finish (not sure of the colour - have dark grey, light grey, white, aubergine, and lilac samples on my kitchen side at the moment) or
Schuller Murano in Aqua High Gloss - which I am told is an acrylic finish
Does anyone have any comments on durability, cleaning, fading etc please?

Whichever finish you choose, get a colour you can live with for a long time. Always preferred white myself so I can tart up the walls whenever I feel the urge.0

Thanks. I am very taken with the aubergine - but thankfully have just done my bedroom in that colour - so common sense will prevail with the colour for the kitchen units!!!
I'm not sure about the acrylic finish on the Schuller units thoughDownshifted

If you like aubergine = go for it!
I think having a theme throughout the home is better than a different colour style in every room, but hey ho each to their own."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Hi
No question I would go for the Schuller Murano door, it will be harder wearing and Schuller make a better kitchen than Mereway/Wentworth also.
Did you know that Schuller also do a range of 20 lacquers on several of their door styles, the slab door in the lacquer finish is Biele.
Where are you getting the kitchen from? If you don't mind me asking.

CK - you have a pm. Also let me take this opportunity of thanking you for all the help and advice you give on this forum - it's difficult buying a major purchase like this and your impartial input is most welcome

Hi,
I am also looking at getting the schuller murano with the gala, handless doors. Did you order the schuller in the end? (and if so where from). I was also wondering if you came across any more info on its durability/cleaning etc as I only found out about the schuller range this week...prior to that I was in love with ALNO kitchens (but not their price! ).
Many thanks!
btw, I'm a big fan of aubergine too.. I might have that as my glass splash backs!!

Yes - I have ordered exactly that from a local kitchen shop here in Broadstairs. General feeling (on here and from kitchen fitters) was that the acrylic doors were better quality and would wear better than the vinyl wrap. 6 week waiting time though - schuller shut down for a summer holiday in August
I am feeling very pleased with the overall design and look of the kitchen though - just a bit different from the norm and not ott in terms of cost

Your very welcome Downshifted.
Sorry I haven't replied to your PMs, just been really busy lately. You seem to have a good deal and the company you have ordered from seem to know what they are doing, judging by their website.
Good luck with the project.

Hi YXL
IMO Schuller make a better kitchen than Alno. I think you pay a premium for the Alno badge as they are the German kitchen supplier to John Lewis, when in fact in Germany they are just an average brand.
I would suggest to you that you need to find a professional kitchen designer if you are in the market for a Schuller (or this type of) kitchen, its not the sort of kitchen you would purchase on line.
Please PM me your details and I may be able to suggest a local specialist near you, if that would help.

I've been lurking here some time and reading the posts in this and other threads spurred me to go and look at a (reasonably) local Schueller showroom. I was very impressed - nice to find units with a white interior and color coordinated exterior.
When handless doors are mentioned do you mean the push to open ones or the ones with special carcasses that allow you to get behind the door with your hand?
p.s. Also a big thank you to CK for all the info you provided
