Dementia in senior cats?

My cat Cuddles who was run over used to do the miaow thing when he couldn't see us, and that was in the past year, he never used to do it. He would miaow to get picked up and put on the sofa sometimes....! And do you know, the injuries he received when he was hit suggest he just stepped off the pavement and it clipped his head, albeit hard...he wasn't stepping in between parked cars...which makes me wonder if he had a hearing issue we never picked up on.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

My old boy used to do the horrible meow thing too, and he was as deaf as a post. He used to stop as soon as he saw someone. I think he was just a little batty and insecure, bless him.
Thanks for the photos of your kitty, she is beautiful. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

My cat jenny does this yowl thing too (she's 21). She does it when she's upstairs and mum is downstairs. She has sometimes had a little wee in the pantry for some reason although she happily goes through the cat flap. Shes a happy little sole though even if she does sleep rather alot now0

Well done, that's what I call a senior cat. My first cat, got to fourteen before having a stroke (there's a light on but no one in), but my last one reached 20.33 years. now she could howl, trouble was it was 0045, 0330, 0530, &/or 0645, well maybe not all, but often more than once a night!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
Our cat Jade also yowls at night , she is also in her 21st year and healthy apart from a little Arithritis, I don't know what all that noise is about but it don't half get on your nerves but a loud SHUT UP stops her in her tracks...lol... but I forgive her cos I love her to bits#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

again thanks for the experiences and stories. It's just hard to know when it's vet time. Don't want to be an over worrier
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Zippy, my cat is 21, she'll be 22 in august. She's always had a heart murmur, and is on meds for it for the last 4 years or so (atenonal and istin). The murmur caused her to have high blood pressure which made the blood vessels in her eyes burst so she is now blind. Did your vet check her eyes?
She also did the yowling for a bit, i just picked her up and stroked her til the episode abated. She is also suseptible to seizures, which are triggered by sound - mainly high pitched - so that might be something to just be aware of. I notice the beginning by her starting to twitching excessively - starting with her face and whiskers... if the sound is ceased straight away, it stops.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

Love the photos, zippy - especially the one of her walking towards the camera with the plant pots in the background. I'll see if I can dig up a photo of my old girl.0

She used to love being with me next to the computer. She's lying on a special blanket I put behind my keyboard. Her fur started to look like an old piece of carpet, bless her, in her final years, but she was still the most incredibly intelligent cat I've ever known.
