Me and my partner are over the limit to receive the nhs exemption cetificate from tax credits by only £200 for the year.
We have 2 children aged 4 and 5 and to be totally honest, we realied heavily on the exemption cards. I have at least 2 prescription items per month so does the partner, also i have to have eye tests every year due to my mother having glaucoma (Altho I dont qualify for free eye tests as I am not over 40 and at risk ) Also the dentist is another nightmare expence.
To be totally honest we cannot afford all of the above, I have just had to cancel my dentist appointment even tho I have terrible toothace as I cannot afford to go.
Is there anything to help people like us who fall just over the limit??
Thanks for reading
The pre-payment certificate is a good idea (already given), but what about the dental hospital for free dental treatment?0 -
Can you get to Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield or similar where you live, free dental treatment as long as you dont mind a 4th or 5th year dental student working on you, ive been few times and they have been wonderful, warning though it is a full day out as the dont rush!Is a Bipolar bear

I don't really understand this; could you explain.0 -
I think what they mean is, now they are no longer entitled to TC, because they are earning £200 over the threshold, that they have to pay for NHS stuff and that the £200 doesn't cover a years worth of dentist/opticians/prescriptions.Oldernotwiser wrote: »I don't really understand this; could you explain.
Although its only for two adults as the kids will get their stuff free.
With certificates and even with an annual eye test included (though i still think thats NOT needed, and i DO have good knowledge of this subject), you'd be hard pushed to spend over £200 paThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

I think what the OP is referring to is that they earnt £200 over the threshold for a exemption certificate.
We don't get any help and my husband takes 5-7 different meds a day and has done for the last 4 years and will for the next couple of years so he has a pre-paid certificate. And he is on benefits and I don't earn mega bucks.
Can't you get the dr to write the scripts over a long period. Unless you are at risk over dosing you should not be getting a script every month. Even my husbands are bi monthly.
We also have to pay for dental and opticians. I suppose lucky my husband is over 40 and gets free eye tests because his father had glacoma. Why has it gone italic
If you have children you don't pay for them anyway. Eye tests are needed only ever two years and if you use a computer most of the time at work your boss is suppose to cough up for that one. And a lot of the time there are free eye test vouchers@ D & A floating around or £10 test at Tescos/Asda.
Specs can be cheap my husband last got his pairs for £19 each. And there is only the dentist to pay for. If you have a NHS one the max they can charge is £200. The other bands are £16ish for a check up and £45 ish including up two fillings and x-rays.
