Do you think public transport is expensive?

Pound, have you checked out the following car clubs? If you're in a major city, they may have some vehicles near you. Membership is around £60/year, and cars are available from around £5/hr including petrol and insurance (although not the excess: I recommend third party excess insurance).
StreetCar
ZipCar (just bought Streetcar, their brand will replace Streetcar's)
CityCarClub
I've been trying StreetCar out, and it works out cheaper than owning a car, but generally more expensive than our previous lifestyle, which was non-car owning but renting as and when we needed a vehicle... Enterprise for three day weekend rentals; Arnold Clark for vans and Europcar for midweek rentals (which earnt me handy reward miles with my airline frequent flyer programme).0 -
Cheaper for me.. my car just blew up and so is going.. saving me about £100 a month, train/bus ticket is £62 unlimited..
9/70lbs to lose

£5 an hour or £49.50 for 24hrs. Citroen C1. 19p per mile charge. £50 membership.
I'm hiring a car from Enterprise Friday 12noon to Monday 12noon, £54, no mileage charge.9/70lbs to lose

Sorry but did any of you actually read what I posted? I said if you buy a saver ticket you can get unlimited travel for a fixed fee. It doesn't matter if you travel 1 mile or 50,000 miles, you pay the same flat fee of £37.80 per month or £491 per year. This is obviously much cheaper than running a car.work out at least as expensive as owning a car. Definitely no savings to be made. The government really screw you.0 -
I did read what you posted, but I'd be on bus and train (not to mention getting up at stupid o'clock to do it). I really don't want anyone else in my space first thing in the morning either.
Car clubs sound good, but you end up driving round in some poxy little eurobox (might even be Frog which would be truly soul destroying )0 -
Or get a (push)bike. What is your commute mileage, shopping mileage and socialising mileages?0

Around 20,000 miles a year - not on a pushbike I think. Anyhow, I'm not built for lycra
